Isolation rooms, infectious disease and protective rooms

Pressure monitoring plays a vital role in hospitals — helping prevent infection and safeguarding both patients and staff. There are two types of isolation rooms, each with its own specific pressure requirements:

  • Positive pressure isolation rooms – These protect vulnerable patients, such as immunocompromised individuals, from external contaminants. By maintaining a higher pressure inside the room, clean air flows outward, preventing "dirty" air from entering.

  • Negative pressure isolation rooms – These protect staff and other patients outside the room. Used for infectious diseases (such as Ebola, tuberculosis, or COVID-19), these rooms are kept at lower pressure so contaminated air stays inside and is filtered before leaving.

In both cases, accurate and reliable pressure monitoring is essential for safety and compliance with infection control protocols.

Why Choose the ATM420:

  • Continuous monitoring of differential pressure between:
    • Corridor and anteroom/airlock (measured by one differential pressure transmitter)
    • Corridor and isolation room (measured by second differential pressure transmitter)
  • Immediate visual feedback with clear green = safe and red = alarm indicators.
  • Optional audible alarm with adjustable time delay, preventing unnecessary alarms when doors briefly open.
  • Optional slave display in the anteroom, allowing staff inside the isolation zone to check room status at a glance.
  • Maintenance / cleaning mode – Activated via a secure code, the display switches to grey, indicating the system is temporarily paused. This mode is ideal during cleaning, calibration, or system maintenance.
  • Designed for both technical staff and healthcare personnel – Easy to install and intuitive to use.
  • Fully compatible with Building Management Systems (BMS) for centralized monitoring and data logging.
  • Equipped with high accuracy differential pressure transmitters that offer two standard analog outputs (4…20mA and 0…10V), allowing seamless connection to variable air volume controllers (VAV) or Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Optional Modbus RTU output for advanced integration — monitor display status remotely and even adjust alarm settings from your central system.

In isolation rooms, staff need to see the room status immediately. The ATM420 displays the pressure condition directly at the door, based on values from connected pressure transmitters. Green means safe. Red means alarm. Status information can also be shared with the building management system.
